2017 Year in Review
December 21, 2017
This photo represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! High above New York City, you can see me “toasting the town” from the uppermost spire of the now-closed Waldorf Astoria. All of the employees have left, and the entrances have been boarded up with plywood. Truly the end of an era! My beloved hotel was bought by Anbang, a Chinese insurance company that plans to convert the building into condominiums. After 16 years of continuous performances for over 500,000 people, I presented my final show at the Waldorf on February 25, 2017. It was a bittersweet night, highlighted by the attendance of many Chamber Magic® friends and fans, and a joyous celebration sponsored by the hotel in my honor.
Fortunately the Chamber Magic® show never closed — it moved seamlessly to its new home, Lotte New York Palace, just one block away on Madison and 50th Street! My first show at The Palace was held on March 3, 2017, with zero downtime. It’s as if the show never ended. (That may be my best trick of all time…) The new venue announcement received lots of media coverage, in Forbes, Parade Magazine, New York Post, Thrillist, Gotham Magazine, New York Lifestyles, What Should We Do, and more. Here’s a fun video I made back in February to announce the move:
As we look forward to the promise of a new year, it’s easy to forget the moments and accomplishments of the previous twelve months. Here is a rundown of my 2017 highlights:
TRIPADVISOR RANKING: #6 OF ALL BROADWAY SHOWS
I’m honored to receive the 2017 Certificate of Excellence on TripAdvisor.com! Chamber Magic® rose in ranks to the #6 show, among all Broadway and theater shows in NYC. It’s headspinning to be listed in the “Top Ten” with Lion King, Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, etc. Thank you!
KATIE COURIC
It was pleasure to have Katie Couric and her husband visit Chamber Magic® in February. I’ve been her fan for decades.
MAYOR DE BLASIO PROCLAIMS “CHAMBER MAGIC DAY” IN NYC
In honor of my 5,000th Chamber Magic® show, Mayor Bill de Blasio declared October 6, 2017 “Chamber Magic Day” in the City of New York.
“On the occasion of the milestone 5,000th live performance of Chamber Magic, I am pleased to join with fans far and wide in applauding its ingenious star, Steve Cohen, for his efforts to enrich our city’s cultural scene and engage and uplift people of all backgrounds through the mesmerizing art of magic.”
WILLIAM GOLDMAN’S 3RD VISIT
I was honored to host Academy award winning screenwriter William Goldman in January. It was his third time attending Chamber Magic® at the Waldorf Astoria. I grew up watching his films – The Princess Bride, Marathon Man, Magic, Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, All the Presidents Men, and on and on.

CHAMBER MAGIC® 5000th PERFORMANCE + COMMEMORATIVE DECK
In honor of the 5000th Chamber Magic® show, we held an elaborate post-show reception with a customized cake from pastry genius Ron Ben-Israel.
Every guest at the 5000th show was presented with a commemorative deck of cards.
Nestled inside the gold foil “5000” casing is one luxury deck of Ivory Edition Tycoon playing cards, produced in collaboration with Theory11. These are the playing cards I use exclusively in Chamber Magic®. A limited quantity of these cards are available. Click to purchase.

———–
From tails to top hats, there is nothing new about stylish magicians; what’s different is that Cohen’s audience follows his lead, with jackets for matinees, black tie and cocktail dresses for evening performances. Cohen’s nickname, the Millionaires’ Magician, refers to his exclusive spectators, just 64 guests in a posh New York City hotel suite.
For 18 years, he mesmerized five times weekly at the Waldorf Astoria, where his Chamber Magic shows entertained billionaires, royalty and countless celebrities. With the Waldorf closed for renovations, he has moved to the New York Palace, where his shows continue to sell out.
CHAMBER MAGIC® COCKTAIL
The expert mixologists at Lotte New York Palace created a signature cocktail in my honor: the Chamber Magic® cocktail! In honor of my magic teapot, the custom cocktail includes Earl Grey syrup, Bulleit bourbon, Hendricks gin, violet liqueur, lemon, muddled blackberry, and a sprig of rosemary. And it’s served in a little teapot! Delicious, and potent.
MICHAEL CERA (ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT)
It was a nice surprise to have Michael Cera in the audience in May 2017. He played the awkward George Michael Bluth on the sitcom Arrested Development. I loved that show, especially Will Arnett’s portrayal of Gob Bluth, the bumbling magician. Michael’s visit was covered in Life & Style, a celebrity gossip magazine.
BILLY
I had the privilege of making a couple new friends as I fulfilled Billy’s wish to see Chamber Magic®. #makeawishfoundation
MEDIA APPEARANCE: MONEYISH
The Wall Street Journal’s spin-off site Moneyish featured a profile of my career.
“Steve Cohen went from almost broke to putting tens of thousands of awe-struck fans under his spell.”
MISS USA VISITS CHAMBER MAGIC®
Kara McCullough, the stunning and brilliant Miss USA (she’s a nuclear physicist), attended Chamber Magic® in August.
MY SECRET PROJECT, NEAR THE FINISH LINE…
And finally… I’m extremely close to completing my latest project, a graphic novel titled The Millionaires’ Magician, which will be released in 2018. Together with a team of incredible artists and writers who work for Marvel and DC, I have created an origin story for my performing character, presented in a 100 page graphic novel in full color. David Copperfield wrote the Foreword, and it is something I’m really proud of! Much more to come in the coming year.
Thank you, everyone, for your ongoing support of my show. I look forward to sharing more magic with you in 2018, in my stunning new show venue – LOTTE NEW YORK PALACE.
