When Shaquille O’Neal takes a night off, he does it in style. During a break between NBA Playoff games, Shaq made his way to Chamber Magic — and promptly blew the roof off the room just by standing up.

We were honored to welcome the legendary NBA forward to the show. He sat in the third row, towering above the rest of the audience (we didn’t sell tickets behind him — it just wouldn’t have been fair!). I had the pleasure of chatting with him before and after the performance, including a moment where I divined his favorite drink — ask me about it next time you visit.

Shaq even gave a standing ovation. When he rose to his full 7’1” height at the end of the show, the entire balance of gravity in the room shifted. It was, quite literally, a monumental moment.

I also learned that Shaq once tried to perform a magic trick — and let’s just say he’s better suited to slam dunks than sleight of hand. But with that charisma, I’d happily let him guest star in the Think-a-Drink act anytime.
